ENT for the PA-C Workshop Highlights

The 2018 workshops planned provide the most up to date clinical training essential for physician assistants and nurse practitioners. We are constantly listening to attendees' feedback and added more content, provided more detailed instruction, developed new mannequins and added more topics.


 

Airway Management Workshop - ADULT

Learning objectives

  • Discuss and practice tracheostomy care techniques.
  • Discuss and practice management for tracheostomy airway obstruction.
  • Discuss and practice management for tracheostomy airway leaks.
  • Discuss and practice management for tracheostomy bleeding.
  • Discuss indications for and practice cricothyrotomy.

Airway Management Workshop - PEDIATRIC

Learning objectives

  • Discuss and practice pediatric tracheostomy care techniques
  • Discuss and recognize differences in pediatric versus adult tracheostomy tubes
  • Discuss and practice management for pediatric tracheostomy airway leaks
  • Discuss and practice management for obstructed pediatric tracheostomy tubes
  • Discuss indications for and practice tracheoscopy of pediatric tracheostomy tubes


Otology Workshop- Advanced

Learning Objectives

  • Practice removing cerumen impaction under microscope
  • Practice myringotomy
  • Practice ventilation tube insertion
  • Practice intra-tympanic membrane injection

Practice paper patch myringoplasty



Flexible Nasal Endoscopy Workshop: Advanced Course

Learning Objectives

  • Identify normal anatomy, normal variants and abnormal findings visible via flexible nasopharyngoscopy.
  • Understand indications and perform flexible and rigid scope examination adult.
  • Understand indications and perform flexible scope examination child/infant.
  • Perform intranasal culture and sinus debridement using rigid scope adult.


 

Flexible Nasal Endoscopy Workshop: Basic Course

Learning objectives

  • Discuss normal anatomy on flexible nasopharyngoscopy
  • Practice the use of the flexible nasopharyngoscope on mannequins.
  • Practice the use of the flexible nasopharyngoscope on simulated patient
  • Understand and practice proper endoscope use and care.
  • Normal variants and abnormal findings will be discussed in Advanced Course.

 

Otology Workshop- Basic

Learning Objectives

  • Discuss normal, normal variant and abnormal otologic conditions.
  • Demonstrate techniques for cerumen removal.
  • Demonstrate techniques for foreign body removal from ear.
  • Perform manual pneumatic otoscopy examination


ENT Procedures Workshop –

Learning Objectives

  • Discuss indications for and practice removal nasal foreign body.
  • Discuss indications for and practice control anterior epistaxis.
  • Discuss indications for and practice control posterior epistaxis.
  • Discuss indications for and practice fine needle aspiration.
  • Discuss indications for and practice peritonsillar abscess drainage.
  • Discuss indications for drainage auricular hematoma and practice splinting.


ENT Coding Workshop –

Learning Objectives

  • Recognize the required components for ENT Specialty Evaluation and Management coding.
  • Document appropriately to support medically necessary levels of E&M coding.
  • Employ correct codes for ENT office procedures.

 

 
 
 

Vertigo Workshop

Learning Objectives

•         Discuss and demonstrate vertigo examination;

–       Neurological examination

–       Rhomberg Test

–       Fukuda Stepping Test

–       Dix-Hallpike

•         Demonstrate ENG/VNG.

•         Demonstrate and practice canalith repositioning


Videostroboscopy Workshop

This two-hour session will discuss indications for videostroboscopy examinations, review use and care of the equipment, identify normal anatomy, normal variants, and abnormal findings, and practice performing and recording the examination.


Learning Objectives

• Recognize the usage and care of videostroboscopy equipment.

• Discuss indications for videostroboscopy examination of the adult.

• Identify normal anatomy, normal variants and abnormal findings visible via videostroboscopy

• Practice performing and recording a videostroboscopy exam on a simulated adult patient.

This program is not yet approved for CME credit. Conference organizers plan to request 160 AAPA Category 1 CME credits from the Physician Assistant Review Panel with a maximum of  38 earnable by an individual. Total number of approved credits yet to be determined.
